Fun with Pre-Columbian Artifacts by Zipline

While the kids were with Grandma and Grandpa at the Choco Museo, Twylla and I took the opportunity to visit the museums on display at the ruins of the Santo Domingo Monastery.

There are old convents and ruins on nearly every corner of the city it seems.   There were actually six "museums" housed within the ruins of this particular monastery which has been converted to a 5 star tourist hotel.

I had thought that the silver museum would be the most interesting, but that one turned out to be just a bunch of silver crowns, crosses, and incense burners used by the Catholic church for Mass, Eucharists, Rituals and Processions.

The most interesting museum at Santo Domingo turned out to be what they called the glass museum.  A curator with a creative mind and a flair for the whimsical decided to display ancient Pre-Columbian artifacts (AD 300-900) alongside modern glass art.  You know that a country has a lot of history when someone decides that 1700 year old Mayan artifacts need to be displayed in a creative way (to create interest.)

Here are some samples of this small (but fun) museum:

Perhaps a strange choice on Valentine's Day, but honestly, a really fun museum!

Of course, it's not Valentine's without chocolate... the chocolate truffles were also delicious...
