A bit of a trek to the beach...made easier together. Great to have some chairs and toys at the beach that we can use. This condo has everything! Very thankful for the extremely clean pools - there's about 8 to choose from. The kitchen is stocked with so many things to make our time here easier and cooking a joy - there's even an instant pot (my famous potatoes are on the menu)! Netflix in English is a treat on warm afternoons with AC to cool us down or early evenings after the kids are in bed (if we aren't too tired). Area rugs, lamps, games, comfy couches, microwave, convection oven, glass cook-top, massive fridge...this place has it all - a big change from the small camper kitchen and then the more primitively furnished places in the months in Central America.
The black volcanic sand beach...easy to spot the shells. We all found a handful and then left them there for others to discover. I walked along the beach to find shells that had holes in them that could be strung on a string. Meritt used goggles to find shells as the waves tossed them up. Maelle found some in the near area.
Playing together...Meritt used his lungs to inflate the whole thing in minutes. Maelle had her own wave rides thanks to her strong brother. It was a bit more of a challenge to figure out a good way to deflate the toy to bring it back in the wagon after we were tired of playing.
A beach view...under a bit of shade but she was still cold. These days have been tough for Maelle - as she sniffles and has a fever. Hoping she feels better soon.
Beautiful bowls made of mango wood sold on the shores. If we were here for only a week with one small suitcase to take home, I'd have bought one. The young seller (his Dad and cousin make these bowls which take 2 days a piece to make by hand) had a hard time understanding that we would not buy one no matter the great price he gave us due to space in our suitcase and travelling for a year. The point was finally made real to him when he tried to put the bowls back into his backpack with great effort with an open zipper as he left - we said we understood that the price would be amazing, but we couldn't fit anything more into our luggage either.
These toes are loved...my Momma heart cares so much about the paths these toes take and the experiences that are part of their development. Parenting and traveling together can be hard...really hard. Trying to get some school work into the mix works some days and other days we have conflict. I'm moment by moment trying to remember the words of Ann Voskamp "What can I accomplish with hate, that I couldn't accomplish better with love?" Can't say it's always smooth - but I hope we as a family learn to reconcile, find love and laughter as we continue these travels.
