This morning I had a lesson about one of Guatemala's natural resources
from a waiter at our hotel in Flores.
From 1925 until 1990 Guatemala had a huge export of natural chewing gum.

The process of making natural chewing gum is similar to the process of
making maple syrup.
The first step in making natural gum is extracting the resin from the gum tree.
To extract the resin you climb up the gum tree and score its bark releasing
the natural resin.
After that is completed you have to boil the resin down for 8 to 12 hours.
During this time you can choose to flavour the gum.
I got to taste natural non-flavoured chewing gum .👍
I think it would be innovative to recreate a market for organic fair trade
naturally flavoured chewing gum.
